The Refuge Church, located at Mendota Hills Campground in Amboy, IL is a non-denominational Christian Church. We are a Bible based ministry and church. We believe in God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit . Because of the many church denomination participation (Methodist, Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, Assembly of God, etc) we teach on the essentials of the Bible and our Faith. Our worship services are mix of hymns and contemporary worship, of which is lead by multiple singers and musicians. We pray that all, no matter what walk of life, feel welcome to join in our services and events!
The Refuge Church was first started as a Bible study in 1990 by campers (now Mendota Hills Campground owners) Mark and Sue Rogers. It started as a small group of believers that had potluck and met together to study God’s word, while enjoying their weekend campground. Over the years, the name of the Bible study was coined “The Refuge”.
In 2005, the Rogers family asked Pastor John and Glenda to start pastoring The Refuge Church. The Kalebaugh family continues to be an integral part of the campground and church, ministering wherever God leads.
The Refuge now reaches anywhere from 10 to 125 people on any given Sunday, ministers to campers, helps support missionary’s, provides a peaceful vacation for those in the ministry, Free breakfast on certain holiday weekends, a week long Vacation Bible Camp, Potluck and bible Study on Wednesdays in the summer, Free taxi service to all the campers, and more. Pastor John is also the volunteer Chaplain for the local Amboy Fire Department.
